In Reply To: R2, get a grip. Your argument is based on the logic that if someone in HR WERE allowed to use their judgment, they'd instantly see that you might be a little cranky, but a genius never-the-less. That's the VERY reason why you SHOULD want to avoid HR. To get yourself evaluated by someone who CAN exercise subjective judgment about your particular genus, er genius. HR is sort of like your local cops who give out lots of tickets for speeding but not many for reckless driving (which, unlike speeding, is actually potentially very dangerous). WHY do they give out so many tickets for speeding? NO JUDGMENT is required. They've got the radar reading or the speedometer reading. NO SUBJECTIVE judgment is required. Probably a good thing, I'll admit ... since most cops would need a whale of lot more smarts before I'd trust 'em to exercise judgment about most things. I agree with Saint Mick that "all the cops are criminals."
Message: I recently dealt with a recruiter who called me up, and began the conversation with a very cocky tone. He began by saying "Well we really only deal with people with xyz experience." I told him that was why I'd applied to him in the first place. His response was "Oh really, well help me out and explain where I would see that on your resume". At that point I really felt like telling him to roll the resume into a tube, and shove it up his ass so he would get a clearer view. All he was looking for was company names, and specific titles that he knew were (as R2 would say) the cookie cutter "skill sets". He had no intention of looking at the actual content of my resume to see what experience I actually did have. This was fairly typical of his recruitment firm, who I won't mention, but you have all heard of them. (cough, Robert Half, cough)
