Filling your time |

I have been out of work for about 2 months now, and as frustrating as it has been, I'm trying to keep busy with other events than simply job searching, I think this is important.
During a recent interview the hiring manager asked me what I'd been doing since my layoff. I think the fact that I could tell him I'd been coaching at a local school, assisting a local start up company, and doing some volunteer work might have helped him to see that I was not someone who likes to sit around waiting, and who likes to be busy.
Is it worth adding these types of activities onto a resume in order to illustrate what you have been doing to fill your time? I know employers want to be sure that you are not just sitting at home watching TV movies! What is the best way to present this?
