Many of the jobs I have seen listed on job sites say "No calls please." I was told by someone at my college's career center NOT to call in those cases, but a friend of mine says she calls anyway. I would like to call since I hardly hear back from any of the places I apply to. What do you think? Would calling despite this adage show interest and initiative and help get my resume noticed, or will it just annoy prospective employers? |

It's a tough call, especially in the current market. If it is a sales job, and you can completely circumvent the HR faction, it can be a good thing. In sales, folks that say no calls are like the signs on the door that say no soliciting, good salespeople just get their hackles up and close the deal. Often times, sales runs their hiring practice separate from HR, and a natural dislike develops between them. The very nature of a salesman, which is considered by many to be politically incorrect, goes against the grain of HR, which to my ascertation, is only a witch hunting organization with little more to do than try to create "culture" and an acceptance of mediocrity in the workplace. My advice, prospect around HR, and see if the hiring manager can be uncovered...
