Can any one offer some resources? I've been out of school for a year, I have a Bachelor's. I'm computer literate, reliable, dependable but I don't have experience. All I've been able to find is a job in retail. Retail! Somebody p lease help me find someplace to start, someplace to find companies willing to give someone a shot. |

Actually I'm in a slightly similar boat. I graduated w/ a B.A. in May, 2000 & found a full-time job w/in 7 monthes. But I got fired in October of 2001 & have been looking for something ever since.
Now I'm currently doing contract work as a substitute teacher & also work 2 days a week as a telemarketer at the local/downtown art museum.
Trying various things is worth every ounce of energy. Try working w/ temp. agencies, but from my experience they either call you for SOME jobs or they don't at all. Temp. agencies can be very, very fickle. But remember that agencies are working for the company they have the contract w/ NOT you, their employee. It sounds horrible, but I've heard it more than a couple of times already.
Another piece of advice I myself should follow most closely is network, network, network. Join different organizations w/in your field or potential field. Talk to people in your desired field & see what it takes to be successful. Talking to different people will give you great insight & is worth every cent you sink into membership fees (if you utlize it properly.)
Besides network, look weekly in the Sunday newspaper(s) & on the internet. Monster.com & hotjobs.com are terrific, but has gotten lax w/ the quality of jobs w/in the past month or so.
Most importantly, keep your chin up & keep looking. Something good is bound to happen sooner or later even if it just getting hired for a temp. or part-time job. That is a baby step & in this economy that is all we recent grads. can hope for!!!!!!!!
