If it's been a whole year that you haven't found a job, it seems to me that you probably haven't tried very hard or you have been much too picky with your search. I'm about to graduate college now and like almost all of my contemporaries(it seems that way), I don't have a job.
With a job market such as this one, one needs to focus on what's available, not what's lacking. You have probably done some interesting projects that you were only committed to for a few months that you don't even realize are valuable. On the other hand, it'll be difficult if you've been sitting on the couch for an entire year, because then you're screwed. You'll look stupid in front of any reputable employer.
Beef up your resume if you've done anything good in the last year, and sell yourself. Aim high and talk to friends and friends of friends to get your foot in the door.
