Twice already I've interviewed for positions only to have the positions "closed" after the interview due to lack of client funding.
I want to know if it is common for HR to feel like they have to let candidates down softly by lying about why the position is closed. If someone else was hired, I'd like to know. |

I am not in HR, so I really don't know, but I have never heard of them doing that. Anyway, I just wanted to post to say I HEAR YOU. This happened to me twice several months ago -- the first time, the company closed the position because they didn't have enough funding, and they said they didn't know when it would open up again, and the second time, they sent me a letter a few weeks after the interview saying the whole project had been canceled. Then last week I went to an interview, and it was going great, but then the guy said there was just one thing: guess what? The position, um, doesn't exactly exist quite yet! But it will soon! Believe me, I'm not holding my breath.
I just wish people would be more considerate and maybe make sure there is an actual JOB or something before they interview people. It is so draining for me to get my hopes up, spend days preparing for an interview, go through all that nervousness, pay to dry clean my clothes, perhaps lose money by missing work for the interview, and then find out there is no job after all! I feel like these people are just toying with me, and it's not right.
