Topic Name: Too many thank you letters...annoying?
Message Name: "Can't thank you enough..."
Date Posted: 05/07/2002
In Reply To: I sent an employer a "thank you for job interview" letter confirming the date and time of my interview. After the interview I plan on sending another thank you letter as a follow-up. My boyfriend says that this practice is ridiculous and outdated and will only serve to position me as an annoying brown-noser. What do you guys think? I just want to go about this whole job search right.
Message: This has become a cliche. Avoid cliches. It says you can't think anything orginal to say. However, one should never pass up the chance to acknowledge a favor or a good deed. For your letter, I'm sure you meant more to confirm the appointment rather than thanking the company for the event itself. Short, professional, and to the point. Not at all annoying. Save the real thank you letter for after the interview.
