Message: I was hired by a company a long time ago and had hoped to start working for them a year ago. However, due to the economy I won't be starting until now. Here's my problem - my new employer wants collect information on my past employment again because it's been a year since I gave them my past employment info. In this past year, I had a bad experience where an employer hired me, then realized I didn't have the right skills and let me go. I want to put it behind me b/c it lasted only 5 weeks and I'm scared that my new employer may use it as an excuse to not hire me now. Can I legally leave this off? I don't think I'm obligated to give this information to them anyway, or am I? What really is frustrating me is that they hired me a year ago and already did this check - this negative employment experience never would have occured if I hadn't had to wait to start.
