In Reply To: It really depends upon your approach to the company you want to work for. Being that I have been in sales for sometime I have learned how to get around the HR folks. I always have gone straight to the VP of Sales for instance. I get his name by telling the switchboard person the following, "hello this is Jeff (blank) and I need your help. I am needing first your proper mailing address, then I need to get your VP of Sales name so that my information gets to him promptly." It works every time. As far as HR goes...traditionally I have seen them using scanning software that excludes your resume IF it does not have the required KEY WORDS. Most companies traditionally like seeing someone like myself who is clever enough to get around HR. Sorry HR folks but your hiring people put up with you. Get to the hiring manager prior to HR! Also, NETWORK! Get to know people. Around 40% of the hidden job market gets filled by people who know people.
Message: I thought that it was between 60 to 80 percent that was filled through networking. I bet it's over 95% for the high level management positions.
