I am in the midst of a job search myself. Have you tried looking at professional organizations related to your career, you might get some contacts through there.

Sorry I hit a wrong key.
There are several professional organizations out there everything from the Association for Computing Machinery to the American Psychological Association. Most of them have websites. Run a search on yahoo on whatever your profession is. Most likely the professional organization will be listed. That is where you should start.
