In Reply To: I'm in my first job search in 10 years. I've found the rules have changed quite a bit and am not certain how to read some things. I'd appreciate a little feedback on this situation. I completed what was supposted to be a final round of interwiews last week. It's been eight business days since the interview and I haven't heard a thing. I'm not certain how to read this. It's possible I am the second choice and they are waiting to hear from candidate number one (at least I hope). However, I've found that firms seem a lot less professional in the hiring process than they used to be. Is it now common for firms to just not advise candidates if the decision has gone another way?
Message: Why, oh why, do many HR and Personnel types claim to say "don't call us, we'll call you" really follow this technique? In the first place, I feel that if they say they would get back to you within 3 or 4 days (unless you interviewed toward the end of the week, then you would probably should wait until the following week). This is especially critical if in fact you are getting ready for a screening interview via the telephone. Stay brief in your wording, and try to let the other person do most of the talking. Once the time eventually comes to talk 'real business', then that should be the time to strut your real stuff which you can offer for the company you are interviewing at.
