I'm in my first job search in 10 years. I've found the rules have changed quite a bit and am not certain how to read some things. I'd appreciate a little feedback on this situation.
I completed what was supposted to be a final round of interwiews last week. It's been eight business days since the interview and I haven't heard a thing.
I'm not certain how to read this. It's possible I am the second choice and they are waiting to hear from candidate number one (at least I hope). However, I've found that firms seem a lot less professional in the hiring process than they used to be.
Is it now common for firms to just not advise candidates if the decision has gone another way?

I agree with the other posts. Companies are short staffed and extremely busy because of it. They're delay in getting back to you should not be a reflection on you.
So yes, do send them a note to let them know of your interest and ask when you can expect a decision.
