In Reply To: I'm in an awkward position and don't know what to do about it. In December I lost my job and of course began looking for something else. In this market, nothing came along immediately. However, I've had a problem with chronic back pain for two years. I had become addicted to prescription pain killers. Since losing my job, I have paid for COBRA and have sought care from a chronic pain management clinic. This is helping me tremendously; the back pain is slowly being eliminated. But, more work needs to be done. My doctor isn't messing around. He has me in his office or at the hospital for outpatient treatments to my back sometimes twice a week, including the follow-ups. This has eliminated my need for the pain killers for the most part and my mind is sharp again. But, my body is weakened by all of the treatments and they have caused me to gain a lot of weight from water retention (an unfortunate side effect). I know that I must find work soon, but can't fit into any of my business suits and can't afford new clothes. Plus, the treatments leave me unable to drive for 24 hours afterward. This time off has given me the luxury of being able to have this work done to my back, but my bills are piling up and finances are not good. No employer would hire me if I told them I might have to be out twice a week for medical treatments. I don't know what to do. The treatments will fix my back, but in the meantime everything to do with finances is going down the tubes. I'm afraid I'm digging such a deep hole I won't be able to climb out of it when I do find work. It's really too bad that all of those work-at-home things are scams, because something like that would be ideal for me in my present condition. The medical side effects are short term but will pay off in the long run. But I need work. I don't know what to do. Can anyone offer advice. I live in Nevada, and don't know if there are programs here for people like me. Thank you for any suggestions you can make.
Message: Well I'm not sure how you expect anyone to help you when you don't tell us what skills you have...One solution might be to take this as an opportunity to seek further aducation. If you can't work go back to school. You can take out some education loans and make yourself more attractive for when you are able to go back to work.
