It does change minds. If there was a normal job posting in the newspaper, in trade publications, on the internet etc, whomever you sent the resume to will be bombarded and may either not get the opportunity to view the resume or at best briefly glance at it. And if it was unsolicited, the profusiopn of spam that most people receive even in a b-b situation is so difficult to weed through that most people don't even attempt to view a hefty percentage of their email.
A phone call is another opportunity to stat you case (and I believe in precalling to get an initial 30 sec pitch in and tell the contact to expect my resume and cover letter). In prior searches I rarely received call backs without a phone call and during this search have never received a call back without a phone follow up. You must distinguish yourself from the hundred or thousands of sheep that compete for the few openings. |

I've never selected anyone for an interview who called me. I've already reviewed each candidate's resume and cover letter, and selected the most promising for interviews, so there's nothing in the phone conversation that's going to change my mind.
