In Reply To: I actually do pay attention to resumes. A majority of the repeat offenders have been told in some resume book to fax, email, and paper their resume to companies they've applied to. Some people do this, as well as coming in and filling out a paper application. While this is all fine and dandy, I would have to say that I read every resume. My industry is manufacturing and direct mail. You can't tell who the best qualified candidate is from a resume, that's why we bring people in for an interview. The hiring manager usually selects those candidates for non-entry level positions from nearly the entire pool of candidates. We don't add up # of years of experience or certificates, or degrees. It's not as cut and dry as one may think. HR people. Wow, good thing they pay us pretty well to be stereotyped. ~HR Dirtbag

If they get no confirmation, if they get no rejection, if they get a meaningless form rejection. The sender doesn't know you got it. The sender doesn't know you spent any time studying it or if you just checked it against a list and threw it away because "SQL" qasn't mentioned and you didn't know it was assumed under "DB2" and he didn't know it was going to someone too ignorant of the job to realise they didn't know (true story). You act like we shouldn't peg you with the other guys because you're doing a good job and it annoys you when people assume you might not be - but what do YOU do so th that the CANDIDATE can tell the difference? Do you tell him exactly why his resume was rejected? Do you call back to discuss features that seem to be missing? Do you IN ANY WAY converse with each candidate about the relevance of their candidacy or do you merely gatekeep, send form replies, and expect them (us) to psionically determine exactly how much thought and consideration you gave our CV?
