Get one, then they'll have to leave their name & number, & you can call back after you've researched the company, assembled your notes, collected your thoughts, etc. |

It's very good advice, let the phone ring and let your answering machine/voicemail pick up.
If they intended to call you about a job, they won't hang up, they will leave a message.
Answering the phone leaves the impression you are sitting around waiting for the phone to ring. That's the wrong impression.
And then there's the problem already discussed in which you are surprised by the phone call. Much better to take the time to research who was calling you, and call back prepared, and with the initiative. The party initiating the phone call always has the advantage.
