Hello people,
I got a phone call from a manager of a company asking me if I am still looking for jobs(which I am). After that he asked me some technical questions about my field. But since this call was "out of the blue" I was not as prepared as I would have liked to be.I was playing pool at the time!!I could answer most of his questions (which were very basic) with some hesitation and one of them I answered wrong.
Then he asked if I knew anything about this company.Since I had researched this company ,I could tell him quite a few facts about the company and about my relevant experience.
Then he said "You MIGHT expect a call in the coming few days and if we do not have a position , your resume shall be in our database for 1 year".And like a fool I didn't even ask for his email address or phone no. for follow up.The total call duration would be some 10 mins.
And this is like my dream job.I would love to get this job.So I am wondering that did I just miss this golden
opportunity?Did I already cancel my name from a list of potential candidates?
I would give anything to work for this company. And so I am really worried about this, coz I don't get a lot of calls anyways. That's why I am writing this message.
So if any of you experienced people would like to give suggestions, you are very welcome.Thank you. |

Always control the situation in your environment on your time.
I would have requested that you return the phone call to him. That way you get his name and can do some work on the company.
When you get home in your 'office', sitting by your desk, you phone him.
Now, the entire discussion takes on a very different perspective. This is exactly what I've done in these situations.
I would now recommend you get to finding out who is he and call him back. The comment of being placed in their data base for one year is bothersome. That usually means 'death'.
However, this person is probably HR staff, and can be gotten back to.
Next time: "your time, your terms". Most people understand.
