Hello people,
I got a phone call from a manager of a company asking me if I am still looking for jobs(which I am). After that he asked me some technical questions about my field. But since this call was "out of the blue" I was not as prepared as I would have liked to be.I was playing pool at the time!!I could answer most of his questions (which were very basic) with some hesitation and one of them I answered wrong.
Then he asked if I knew anything about this company.Since I had researched this company ,I could tell him quite a few facts about the company and about my relevant experience.
Then he said "You MIGHT expect a call in the coming few days and if we do not have a position , your resume shall be in our database for 1 year".And like a fool I didn't even ask for his email address or phone no. for follow up.The total call duration would be some 10 mins.
And this is like my dream job.I would love to get this job.So I am wondering that did I just miss this golden
opportunity?Did I already cancel my name from a list of potential candidates?
I would give anything to work for this company. And so I am really worried about this, coz I don't get a lot of calls anyways. That's why I am writing this message.
So if any of you experienced people would like to give suggestions, you are very welcome.Thank you. |

Wireless - please tell me you stopped playing pool and concentrated. Yes, of course you did.
Good Signs: They liked your resume enough to call and do a preliminary screening. You are on their radar screen! You did your homework and were able to relate your skills to their business. Very nice!
The screener is going to discuss the call with either the hiring manager or a Sr. recruiter. You have a shot.
Your Homework: Get on the phone and call everybody in that company until you find out who called you. Safe bet of where to start - the receptionist. Story: I got a call from a recruiter about X job - I'm supposed to follow up about an interview and misplaced the notepad with his/her # on it. Find out who you talked to!!!! You have a perfectly legitimate reason to call this person. Ask how the search is going, are you being considered for an in-person interview. Approximately when will in-person interviews begin. Get this person's contact information into your database. Send a follow-up note - let them know how much you admire the company and want to work there. Be politely, but relentlessly persistent.
Try developing more contacts within the company - see if you can find anybody you know who knows someone inside. Have them circulate your resume for you. Employees get bonuses for referring the successful candidate for an open position - even if they don't know you from Adam - they have nothing to lose. If you want to work for this company as much as you say - keep at it and work every angle. You obviously fit at least the minimum qualifications for a certain position - more of them will come up. Good job! Keep at it!
