In Reply To: If you have reason to beleive that the company you are interviewing for values independant thought, and appreciates your statement of ethnic pride, don't change a thing. I suspect, however, that most employers are looking for "team players" that are looking for candidates that will mesh well with thier corporate culture. My hunch is that to the extent that your hairstyle makes you stand out from the crowd, you will be remembered as a qualified candidate for whom "this position is not a good fit"
Message: if what you want to do is make a political statement, and that is your main agenda, go ahead and do what you want with your hair or any other aspect of your grooming. I would suggest that if your life would be miserable and you feel you would be living a lie to accommodate your personal grooming preferences to the culture of a corporation, I suggest you do something else. Start your own company - work in an environment where your personal style is the norm, not a deviation. Is this about style, politics or getting a job? I'm confused by the question.
