In Reply To: may be too simple and an over-generalization of why an individual did brilliantly in H.S. and poorly in college. There are many factors and challenges, too numerous to list. College GPA is an immediate measure of how well a young person navigated all of those factors and challenges. An employer who hires new undergrads with good GPAs knows that they are, at the very least, getting someone who: set priorities, overcame obstacles, had a plan and stuck to it, delayed gratification, made sacrifices, showed up, paid attention, organized and completed projects and assignments, took pride in what they did - all good qualities that should translate into performance in the workplace. If a student can't crack a 3.0, I want to hear a pretty good sob story. But, after your first job, your job history and career progression will speak volumes. College degrees and GPAs do not guarantee success. It's just the foundation to build upon.
Message: I'm not going to really get into my reasons for a lower-than-expected GPA (still above 3.0), other than to say that I did much better towards the end of my college career, once I got my head out of my *ahem* Thanks for the thoughts -- the SATs will stay off the resume for now, and we'll see how I fare.
