In Reply To: it looks like your gpa is more indicative of your quality as a potential hire. if you had problems of "motivation" in college and got a bad gpa, i'd say it's a pretty good chance that you're going to have motivation problems on the job and an employer will be wary of you. what you need isn't just resume beautification, it's an attitude change. be more proactive. network like crazy.
Message: may be too simple and an over-generalization of why an individual did brilliantly in H.S. and poorly in college. There are many factors and challenges, too numerous to list. College GPA is an immediate measure of how well a young person navigated all of those factors and challenges. An employer who hires new undergrads with good GPAs knows that they are, at the very least, getting someone who: set priorities, overcame obstacles, had a plan and stuck to it, delayed gratification, made sacrifices, showed up, paid attention, organized and completed projects and assignments, took pride in what they did - all good qualities that should translate into performance in the workplace. If a student can't crack a 3.0, I want to hear a pretty good sob story. But, after your first job, your job history and career progression will speak volumes. College degrees and GPAs do not guarantee success. It's just the foundation to build upon.
