I like your candor in replying to messages so I am seeking advice?
I was terminated by a big5 shop because, "it wasn't working out." Mainly I worked for 1 year and wasn't given any work. I really had zero responsibilities while I worked at the company. The managing partner and other senior people who interviewed and hired me all left between offer date (feb 00) and start date (jul 00). So, they didn't have a need for me and/or know what to do with me once I started. Nonetheless, they allowed me to formally resign. I tell potential employers that I was laid-off but resigned to get a better severance package. I took involuntarty resignation is what it boiled down too.
What are your thoughts?

I think that if you tell pepole you were fired for "not working out" no one will ever hire you unless they were really desperate to find an employee with your exact skills, and with the economy right now it's job seekers who are desperate and not employers.
