This may come as a shock... |

I was laid off from a cash-poor software company in October and have been looking for work in product management/marketing or business development ever since. I had decent interest from companies early on in my search, but am finding a slow down in activity even though the job marketing is *supposed* to be looking up (I live in the DC Metro area). I'm afraid I may be getting tossed in the UGH pile because the gap in my employment is getting wider. So, the question: Do I address this in my covers letters? Could it prevent the "HR toss"? Any advice? Thanks! |

This may come as acomplete shock to all of you pinhead bashers, but we do understand the economy, our industry, what companies are downsizing and why very good people are looking for work. You are overly concerned about this. Just be honest. "I've been looking for a job," is sufficient and honest. Also, we have to contend with the hiring biases and preferences of those hiring managers whom you believe will hire you if you can only get to them directly. Wrong - they're the ones who reject you. Not we pinheads. Those glorified hiring managers have the etched-in-stone "cookie cutter" requirements. We don't make up the hiring requirements! You are wasting valuable time and energy on this! Get back to basics - do your research and network your buns off!
