Getting Around the Pinheads |

Ok - you've heard many tactics for how to get around us pinheads, but I want to suggest that the young woman who sent me a resume and then called me yesterday has a different story to tell. She worked her way through college working for Starbucks for 7 years and finally got her degree with a respectable GPA. her drive and determination and work ethic jumped off the page of her resume. I passed the resume along to the hiring manager. With any luck she'll get the job. She doesn't have a "Cookie Cutter" resume from the fancy schools my company generally recruits from, but I won't hold that against her - maybe the hiring manager will, but I won't. Yes, I carefully read every resume. Yes I answer my own phone and talk to candidates. Yes, I have an eye for the unusual, deserving candidate. So, go ahead and expend a lot of energy on getting around me and spewing out your frustration and anger at HR people. I would like to suggest, however, that all of that is counter-productive - and you're the one who will suffer in the long run if you listen to people (is he really a person?) like R2.
