In Reply To: Many of the jobs I have seen listed on job sites say "No calls please." I was told by someone at my college's career center NOT to call in those cases, but a friend of mine says she calls anyway. I would like to call since I hardly hear back from any of the places I apply to. What do you think? Would calling despite this adage show interest and initiative and help get my resume noticed, or will it just annoy prospective employers?
Message: The "NO CALLS" line at the bottom of the ad is why people hate looking for a job so much. (1) It's the tone of it, along with verbage like "only qualified candidated will be contacted" that angers people. The only purpose of lines like that is to make people feel low. Imagine that, the HR people pay extra money just to make people feel bad about themselves. (2) The "NO CALLS" is a rule that people instinctively, and correctly, feel is holding them back, and that people who don't play by the rules are getting ahead while they are getting left behind.
