In Reply To: I am thinking about sending a lot of resumes to company websites and IT directors, etc. at specific companies, since recruiters don't seem to be too effective right now. However I am worried that if the market picks up recruiters will once again be the way to find IT jobs, but by then all the companies will already have my resume and I won't be able to use the recruiters. Don't know if I've explained this correctly--any opinions?
Message: I was unemployed for awhile due to downsizing by a major Fortune 5 company last fall. I took the path of least resistance not knowing any better. That is blasting my resume to recruiters and job boards. I am telling you with my experience multiple degrees and salary requirements I am more than qualified for most positions in my field. Here is the result. After spending well over $2000 in job board related doo wopp stuff and redoing my resume three times by three different companies I did not receive one recruiting or job board opportunity nor interview with same. My interviews and offers have been successful because I practiced the old method of Networking and calling my choice companies speaking to the decison makers. It is my opinion that the job boards and recruiters are both overblown. You will often get recruiters contacting you personally requesting you to fill out profile paperwork and requests by same to list your name and information on their Recruiting job board. Now you can do all of this if you want maximum exposure. The odds might be good for your line of work, but for myself this system of employment seeking is a bust. I wish you luck. This is just my experience you might receive different results.
