Be careful trying to aviod HR. In my company people who blatently try to aviod the staffing process are excluded. We have many ways to get in - the most effective being applications through our website for specific openings. Another is the employee referral program. If people send unsolicited resumes for unopen jobs, that is not HR's fault if you don't get anything. That is why we list our openings on the web . . . so people can apply for jobs that we have open. Then we can properly respond to qualified candidates.
Granted, not all companies are like mine, but more and more with our wonderful government regulations companies are enacting similar rules. |

It really depends upon your approach to the company you want to work for. Being that I have been in sales for sometime I have learned how to get around the HR folks. I always have gone straight to the VP of Sales for instance. I get his name by telling the switchboard person the following, "hello this is Jeff (blank) and I need your help. I am needing first your proper mailing address, then I need to get your VP of Sales name so that my information gets to him promptly." It works every time. As far as HR goes...traditionally I have seen them using scanning software that excludes your resume IF it does not have the required KEY WORDS. Most companies traditionally like seeing someone like myself who is clever enough to get around HR. Sorry HR folks but your hiring people put up with you. Get to the hiring manager prior to HR! Also, NETWORK! Get to know people. Around 40% of the hidden job market gets filled by people who know people.
