I am thinking about sending a lot of resumes to company websites and IT directors, etc. at specific companies, since recruiters don't seem to be too effective right now. However I am worried that if the market picks up recruiters will once again be the way to find IT jobs, but by then all the companies will already have my resume and I won't be able to use the recruiters. Don't know if I've explained this correctly--any opinions? |

I have dealt with recruiters and directly with companies. The problem is that recruiters may not want to represent you if you do mass mailings directly to their client base. Be upfront with them, if they call with a vague description of a job, tell them that you have made direct contact with such and such company. Good ones will understand and may even give you advice (remember if you get in and you need to hier someone, who will you be thinking of giving the job search to, those of lesser quality may spew some venom and you know not to use them. It is curious to note that only 15% of all jobs are filled by recruiters and the remaining 85% is through networking. Something to be said for the direct approach.
