In Reply To: Well if it has been three incidents, there is a pattern here. Possibly you are not targeting yourself/being targeted for the right opportunities for your experience level. Should it happen again (hopefully not) I'd push the recruiter for specifics. Possibly there is something coming across in the interview process that you don't realise. Also remember, they can approximate your age from your resume, so if age was that important, I doubt you would have received an interview to begin with. And at least you are getting those! Now, I'm wondering if there is something you can help me with. I remember one of your prior posts mentioning you work in Banking and are from Queens. I'm returning to NY after a few years away. I think this job hunt may be a bit tough as my network has dried up during my absence. I'm looking to join (or if necessary start) a job hunting/networking group focused on financial services. Any information you would have on existing ones would be much appreciated.
Message: Zuri, When you get back to NY, look up the 5 O'Clock Club. They bill themselves as "America's Premier Career Counseling Network." Their website is http://www.fiveoclockclub.com The group has weekly meetings (which do require a fee over the low membership fee) which provide both peer-to-peer networking and career advice and feedback from professional career counselors. People come from all industries, and finance is well represented. They also have a variety of literature, including a set of books which address many job hunting issues, including how to handle appearing overqualified. General disclaimer: I'm not affiliated with the 5 O'Clock Club, simply a satisfied client.
