How does one handle the old over and uderqualified excuses of why after an initial interview there is no further interest? In my case the last three interviews ended in situations where I was liked (and received positive feedback from recruiters but either considered overqualified (which in my book is the lamest excuse possible) or underqualified (which also was bogus given that I have the requisite experience in the field I work in and was applying for a position that required a minimum of ten years experience). How do you handle something like this? I am sick of using recruiters simply because I think that they are not screening me properly for potential positions and are wasting my time in addition to making doubt my abilities. |

Over Qualified---So it sounds disheartening,right?
..No ...not really
There is a ray of sunshine coming through the clouds for all of us.
THE SERVICES INDUSTRY:
You have been over demanding all these years with people who waited on your table, now it is your turn to wait tables. Yes!!
If you want to work follow the market.
* Cameras and security people: Hey ...$38 billion is going into Homeland security to protect the wealthy landed gentry. It is your chance.
I would first suggest taking some Tibo classes. Watch some Jackie Chan movies over and over. Show some marshal arts moves during the interview.
Dont apply for a job selling shoes...apply to companies that are looking for explosives in shoes.
---------------------------
You are not overqualified:
You just need to be creative.
Think about these other methods of getting that perfect job.
* Research: Do any of the VP's at a target company have a daughter (or if you are a woman) son, who is not married. Remember!! Nepetism is still the easiest and fastest way to a secure job.
* Advertise as a purchasing agent to a target company: You think I a kidding?? Then you are not creative. Send a e-mail. Out for Bid: "48 Double sided lapping and polishing machines for Chinese manufacturing operation( read the companies machine specs. and put the same specs. in the bid request package). This is a potential $3 million plus order for them, not including ongoing expendables.
You will now be talking to the President, VP of Sales, VP of Marketing.. You will be eating with them at the best of places. You will be a purchasing consultant. Buying for a Chinese company. You state you were hired to buy the equipment. The Chinese will be involved later. They will ask who, you will state it is your account and will get them involved at the right time. Sit back enjoy the fishing trip to Florida..etc. maybe their hunting ranch in Texas. They will bug you to death trying to get the name of that Chinese company ..they want to cut you out.
Oh no!! you tell them after 1 month, they bought used equipment from a Yugoslavian company. They gave the machines to them at almost cost and got a 10 year contract for all expendables.
Everyone is pissed at the company. You tell them they were your first choice..they make a quality product and that if you would have been selling this equipment, you would have put together a counter to buying used equipment..etc. and opened them up to foreign customers they have never contacted.
Bang..you are known by all at the company..and you just applied for a job.
As high quality available jobs shrink in the U.S., natural selection will take place.
Darwin Speaks.
First internal corporate Jessy James Accounting types will be at the top for a while. They will all move to Brazil where none extradition laws are maintained for them.
Then comes the NEW BREED.
* He is smart, creative, off-the-wall not out of the box thinker, he will do anything to get a job.
Even yours.
Watch out..here comes the over qualified Manager intent on feeding his family.
Those who are cunning will survive. Those who are creative (Not multiple degreed nerds) will survive.
And remember...Homeland security is a $38 billion dollar market. Who do you go after.
I must go now to my new $7.50 / hr job installing home security cameras. I will soon be looking!! in on you as soon as I launch my new security company in a year.
