In Reply To: I'm interviewing for a position next week. I found out yesterday that I was selected for a very competitive and prestigious grant that will require me to be out of the country for 3 weeks in April. Should I mention this during the interview or do I wait until if/when I get a job offer? Part of me says I should be up front about the grant and the other part says that might blow my chances for the job.
Message: I don't see any harm being upfront with a potential employer about needing time off shortly after being hired. If you are the most qualified person for the job, this disclosure will not discount your candidacy. Beside, if the grant is as prestigious as you say, there is an associated glory for a company to hire someone like you. Good luck!
