In Reply To: I'm interviewing for a position next week. I found out yesterday that I was selected for a very competitive and prestigious grant that will require me to be out of the country for 3 weeks in April. Should I mention this during the interview or do I wait until if/when I get a job offer? Part of me says I should be up front about the grant and the other part says that might blow my chances for the job.
Message: I see no reason to offer any unnecessary information in the early stage of the interviewing process. You do not know if there is an interest in you at all. If you are called in for a 2nd interview, I suggest that you use your judgement to determine if there is a real interest in you at that stage. If you think there is, you might want to consider sharing that informatiom with them because they might have a training program that they might want you to participate in after you are on board.
