In Reply To: I accidently hit something twice and never completed my message. So here's the rest. Yet, I'd be on the street if I had to rely on HR to invite me for even a first round interview. Despite what you say and allegedly did, most people in HR throw out cover letters and check the chronilogical section of the resume if the person had the exact same title or a half step below with a larger competitor, has an MBA and knows the most rudimentry software packages for even the most senior positon (if you don't prominently mention expertise in word, excel and power point on your resume the HR pinheads will assume that either you don't know them or even if you are a senior vp, are incapable of learning them.)Those despite their real skill set and experience who do not currently have the same job title for a larger or more prestigous competitor are automatically screnned out, unless they have an MBA. Then these sins are completely forgiven, despite the fact that very little course works teaches anything relevant to the job.
Message: If anybody in HR is throwing away cover letters, that's very unprofessional and should not be tolerated. Shame on the managers who ignore this kind of misconduct! Heads should roll, both in HR AND in management. The screening procedures you describe are equally unprofessional. Years ago, I would not have believed your allegations, but some outfits have become so disfunctional that nothing surprises me anymore. I hope that someone recognizes your true abilities real soon.
