In Reply To: Your post is right on the money!! HR people refuse to realize that they can find the best candidates in what they believe are the least likely places. You should really look at people who apply for jobs across business functions. Seldom is it that the solutions to business problems are confined within one function. Most often they span all functions and the cross-functional applicant can bring invaluable information and insight to the table. Personally, I see this all the time. I have six years of operations experience, and get dissed when I apply for marketing jobs. Do you trully believe that someone with an ops background can't excel in marketing or finance; or vice-verse? ...shit, I majored in marketing and my spreadsheet modeling experience in operations is easily applicable in marketing and finance. HR typically tosses these types of applications because they really don't understand...hiring managers do!
Message: I like how everyone thinks they didn't get selected for a job because HR wasn't effective. Maybe you weren't called because your salary was too high. Maybe it was because you had too many jobs in too few years. Maybe it was because your career objectives didn't match the objective of the position. Or, maybe you had errors in your cover letter or resume. It could have been one or more of several things.
