Topic Name: Who Should Receive My Resume?

In Reply To: I thought they have to have the applicant's permission before doing any background checks. Most applicantions have a section for the applicant to sign, so the company has permission to check someone's background. I know the law just changed, but I thought it was just for credit card and insurance customers. Are you saying that anyone who has my address and name can check into my personal information?
Message: No permission is required for an HR department to perform checks such as talk to the companies you list as former employers or to run a background check for a criminal record. The only thing they really need your permission for is to access your education records or credit history.
