Message: My current job is workable in terms of job duties and co-workers, but I really can't afford (in $ and commute time) to work there anymore. That said, I'm looking for tips on applying for a new job at my former employer (left for my current job 1 year ago). I originally left because I wanted to develop a different skill set and get my feet wet in the for-profit sector, needed something different from the non-profit burnout, and needed to escape a bad commute. I've stayed involved at my old non-profit, and now see that they're posting for my old job (since me, they've gone through 4 people), as well as for a more interesting job that I feel I'm qualified for. I've kept the lines of communication open, and done some contract and volunteer work in the time I've been gone. Being now back in the area, the commute and job duties are both very appealing. I've done a quick search on the web for tips on applying for work at a former employer, with little success, and would appreciate your thoughts/experience/help with approaching this. One more qualifier: am planning to go to business school within the next 4 years, and don't know how wise a career move this would be.
