This will be a little long so bear with me.
My initial question as to how to explain the gap in my work history was not meant as a validation for lying on a resume. It actually was a question on how to handle that gap.I appreciate what Bob_d said because even though I am skilled, most companies won't even CONSIDER granting me an interview because of that gap. They discriminate.
I appreciate Talent_scout's point of view and her experience as an HR specialist, but several statements were made in her reply that show the status quo. Is there a list of acceptable things to have done while out of work that would be acceptable? ie. Would taking classes be OK while taking care of a sick family member, would not??! It's all subjective and that's what makes it so sad.
Finally, I have no intention of lying about anything especially my experience, skill level, job duties or salary...but I think it is ironic that I am desirous of a job, willing to put in the time and effort, and yet those in a positon to hire would discriminate against me because of a gap in the work history that can be explained if given the chance.
Thanks
