In Reply To: what if I put in the dates section of my resume that I am presently working at a particular company, even if I'm not? How big an offense is that? I know I should be honest and upfront, but I think my resume is just being ignored by a lot of employers for positions I am qualified for b/c I am not currently working. I did not get fired from my last job, I quit it to find something else. What are the chances of a potential employer finding out that I am really not employed at the moment? Do they check where you are currently working? Are they entitled to contact your current or past employer?
Message: It's a FACT that employers prefer to hire people that already have jobs. It's no one's business that you left your job. Put down on your resume that you work at your job until "present". Don't answer your home phone during the day. When they ask you in for an interview, make like you have a job and prefer to interview before 9 or after 5.
