What if HR asks us to guess what we made? Some HR people are very persistent when it comes to salary.
What if an job ad says to send salary history? Some HR people feel that not including the salary history means that the candidate can't follow directions or is not qualified. |

I've always wondered what the salary you made 10 years ago has to do with now. Why is that anybody's business? Can any of you HR types explain this? I just say in my cover letter "I would expect to receive a salary commensurate with my qualifications and the job requirements." Give a broad range (from salary.com or something) if you want to be more specific. I rarely give salary history, unless applying for a public sector job with rigid application requirements. It is so unfair for the employer to have all the salary information-how can you negotiate your best deal under these circumstances? I say that employers looking for salary history are looing to get you as cheaply as possible.
