The only way you are going to get this job anyway is if your boss recommends you, so you should tell your boss right now that you would like the other job and would he/she put in a good word for you.
And if you feel you can't do that without getting your boss pissed, then don't bother to apply to the other job because you aren't going to get it anyway. Start looking for jobs in different companies.
