Topic Name: put model background on resume?
Message Name: Actually, it's not THAT hard ...

In Reply To: I just graduated with a degree in Economics from a good university, and am a very qualified applicant for the commercial and international banking positions I'm applying for. I have kind of an odd question which my Career Center staff could not answer. My freshman and sophomore years, mostly in the summer but also on short and quick hops to other cities while school was in session, I was a model with IMG (a top agency). This of course does not contribute directly to my real career aspirations, but I feel that it was an eye-opening experience. However, modeling is (not unreasonably) associated with drug use, eating disorders, bisexuality (esp with men), and other attributes which employers do or may frown upon. Some people also assume that good-looking people are stupid (not that all models are actually good-looking when you see them in person--LOL). I am wondering whether my experience is an asset or a liability and whether I should be putting it on my resume. And if asked, how do I explain it? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
Message: Put yourself in "their" position ... mostly boring people work in banking, so if they are a woman interviewing you, they will most likely be some hack who will be thinking "who does she think she is, anyway", and if they are a guy, they will most likely be misogynistic because instead of getting laid they were spending all those hours climbing up the imaginary corporate ladder and they will be thinking "Oh, a model, huh? I bet if I was younger and I asked her out she would think she's too good for me! Well, I'll show her - I'll pass her over for the job!" In summary, it will get women interviewers jealous and male interviewers distracted. P.S. Send me a picture of yourself - I am thinking of starting a bank staffed by models - I think it would be a good business angle to get lots of delusional middle-aged men to come into my bank and make frequent deposits as an excuse to strike up conversations with the staff.
