Targeting Financial Roles |

Hi everybody. Hopefully somebody can offer some direction / advice. I graduated in 2005 with a BS focused in finance, and the financial job market then was not as hot as what we are seeing today. I interviewed and accepted a fund accounting position, and I've been there for more than a year now. I did not enjoy accounting in school, but thought that getting some practical experience in the field would help me land a position within finance later on. I've learned a great deal at my current accting role, but have recently become quite miserable with my job. My interests have always been in finance, and I ultimately decided that it was time to move on. I can't live a lie anymore! I've been trying to target analytical roles working with products through recruiters, but most tend to refer me to either the same type of fund accting role that I'm currently trying get out of, or roles they dub as "hybrid" roles where accting tasks will still be involved but there will be exposure to more products. I realize that a lot of recruiters tend to pair candidates up with opportunities that they can easily land, b/c they care only for the signing commission, and I'm a little suspicious that that may be the case.
Can somebody please tell me whether or not I am destined for another dreaded role in accting with or without recruiters? Are there better ways to make this transition? Ideas and feedbacks will greatly be appreciated. Thx!
