i was hired into an associate position on the transaction team. if i understand correctly, there are a few different places an analyst fits in here (valuation writing, fairness opinions, transactions, etc.) and the position would be different for each.
by "decent" i'm assuming you mean "able to close", right? some of the deals we're given are pretty straight forward, but some really need some attention to get the memo into the right place and the right hands.
the bonus' are paid out of a pool for the team (MD, VP, Assoc and Analyst) and the pool is a piece of the whole fee earned. not too too different from anywhere else, but i really enjoy knowing that every hour i put in counts to a certain dollar amount...that's been great motivation so far!
