Background: I am in the process of relocating (August) and looking for a job in the new city while employed.
Question: one of the methods I am using to find a job is looking for positions online. will it be overkill if in addition to sending my resume electronically, I also mail it?

If you are sending your resume direct to the company, I would say mailing it also would be a good idea. This will ensure they see a proper printed copy. Sometimes electronic files can look different on different systems, and the formatting can go funny when printed.
If you are sending your resume to a recruitment consultant/agency, don't bother mailing it as well, sending it electronically will be enough (with a short followup phone call to make sure they got it and to re-assert your interest). Most recruitment agencies have electronic computer systems and they will want an electronic copy of your resume to attach to your electronic file (I hope that makes sense). They will also most likely change your resume (delete personal details etc) before forwarding it to a company, so they will want the electronic version for this. A paper copy will most likely go straight into the bin, and just end up costing you postage.
