In Reply To: I completely understand all the frustrations that have been voiced. I also like the recommendations that some have offered and definitely recommend myself to follow. Do not get discourage. I have a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a Global MBA. I had to recently quit my job since my husband was relocated to another state for his job. I have over 8 years of experience (technical and business) and I still get very little calls and interviews. I have had my resume reviewed by a professional firm which it stated that it stands out and shows that I am a quick learner and can adapt to any industry. I even have recruiters tell me that my resume is incredible is one of the best ones they have seen. I however think the issue in my case is I'm limited to where I can look area wise. I am confined since I do not want to look for jobs in other states. This is why I'm in the predicament that I am in now. Plus, I really like where we live and I'm holding out for more BA positions to come available. Remember competition is stiffer in this day of age since jobs are limited due to global competitiveness and jobs being taken offshore. I would not limit yourself also to one type of job unless you have so many years (at 3 to 5) experience. Additionally do not limit yourself to your local area, network, and join professional associations...Toastmasters International is a great one to help you speak in front of others with confidence and assurance.
Message: Thanks tiffanyfr! Since my post, I have created a few cover letters & resumes that target slightly different 'new careers'. I have had anyone who will respond review / edit and help make them compelling! I have started to rattle & build my network, and have identified some entry points to consulting or public policy positions. A question is once the submission button is pushed. how long should I wait before a follow up call? Is it better to identify people in the companies or just submit to HR? As for Toastmasters, I have family & sport obligations that will not afford this. However I have earned a number of awards for my presentations and teaching abilities (shameless self promotion!) thanks 4 the response!
