So far I have only contacted rather well-know recruiters. (e.g, Robert Half and two others). It it safe to assume that these big-name companies will not spam my resume?

no...most times the real big ones are fine, but unless you have amazing credentials you might become a number because of all the canidates. go to their websites everyday and check on the newly posted positions and if you see one you like call them...even if you dont call them atleast once a week to let them know you are still looking-may sound like being a pain but it helps, they have a lot of clients-you need to stick out
