I'm in a tough place right now and I'm not sure what to do. My story is a little complicated so please try to bear with me.
I went to a business school in Boston and completed my undergrad degree in Economics and Finance in 2004. During my senior year, I got into real estate part time renting apartments.
After I graduated I didn't think the corporate life was for me so I moved back to NYC. Got my license here in NY, and did residential leasing for a couple months while a family friend got me an internship at Cushman and Wakefield. While doing the internship, I stayed on at the residential company part time. After the internship I went back full time at the company I was working at.
At this point, my experience consisted of roughly 2 years of residential experience, one internship at Cushman and Wakefield, and non real estate experience including an internship at Bloomberg in IT.
After the internship I decided that residential real estate wasn't a real career and is more akin to being a used car salesman. Determined to get into the commercial/finance/accounting side of the business, I have spent the last nine months looking for a job unsuccessfully. The latter 2-3 months I have even expanded my job search to any non real estate entry level finance or accounting position.
I have met with countless recruiters, gone on interviews with maybe 10 companies, gone 3 rounds or more with 3-4 companies including CBRE, Jones Lang LaSalle, US Bancorp, among others. For some reason, after my final round interviews nobody bites.
I haven't even been able to get a temp job.
The longer time goes by, the harder I've found it to get an interview. With my job search looking worse and worse everyday, I am now considering getting an MBA.
It is now halfway December, and from the little research I have done I believe most application deadlines are in January. Considering the fact the I have not taken the GMATS yet, I don't think I will be ready to apply for fall 07.
If I apply for spring 07 or fall 08, my unemployment stretch is going to be over a year. It makes my job search as well as my look worse.
What should I do? Try to apply to whatever schools I can make for the Fall 07 deadline? Apply for Spring 07? Forget about the MBA and keep looking for a job?
