In Reply To: Graduation is just around the corner and like many of you before me, I am completely in the dark as to what my options are career-wise. UC Davis has a wonderful Career center- but it really only applies to people who know what field of work they want to go into. A History degree seems to have its limits... to be blunt-teaching, although I love kids, isn't for me. Any career involving or requiring analysis, research and people skills would be the perfect fit for me. If you would be so kind as to point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated.
Message: I found myself in that same position just two years ago, and all I can say is this - "Don't let anyone define you.". The only reason classifications/definitions work or bear any real relevance in life is because people allow them to, whether its someone telling you that you need X degree from Y university for a job, or anything else. That being said, I will say my next piece of humbled advice - the number #1 trait any person can offer (assuming you are not a genius who will work in a lab all day/at a chalkboard hashing out high finance - which you may very well be, and if so - kudos), so anyways...the #1 trait a person can offer in most jobs is the ability to work with people. That being said, lok into things that you like! Thats what matters the most. Also helps if your prior experience (internships, etc) can in some direct you. Good luck!
