In Reply To: I am 27 with a BS in economics and have been working at the highest levels of a federal agency for roughly 4 years with my major responsibilities being to: -develop/implement policy; -manage a multi-million dollar budget with a workforce over >100; -coordinate complex initiatives and programs between multiple federal agencies; sit on several advisory boards; -traveled extensively to promote/negotiate US foreign commercial policy. While these responsibilities have been very helpful in my professional develop ??transferable skills?? I??ve found it surprisingly hard to leverage them when seeking outside employment. As a close family friend said when reviewing my resume: ??You??ve done a lot of very interesting things for someone your age, but how do they help me??? My question is to anyone kind enough and willing to respond. A. How does one bridge the gap between experiences founded through work in public policy/government and those desired by private industry?
Message: Make sure you customize your resume to reflect the language of the job you are going after. You have a great backround. Talk the language of ROI, cost savings, etc. The private sector will get it.
