Hi,
I am a frustrated PhD who wants to relocate myself and family to the RTP area in NC. I have applied to several jobs, however, I haven't landed any interviews. Is it acceptable to make calls to big companies or is that frowned upon? I am coming from the academia world to industry and I just can't figure out the system. Does the squeaky wheel get the grease or will they throw my resume away if I call to follow up on jobs that I've applied for?

If you're still a student try going to research presentations and presenting your research in the RTP area. A friend and his girlfriend went to NC State. She could not get a job out of undergrad so she went on to get a masters and from giving her presentations at various places around the country she was able to recieve several offers.
